Over the duration of the Erasmus project at the Max-Planck-Gymnasium the Art department contributed diverse projects to the Erasmus topic „Stars in Europe“. To be exact one third of the annual curriculum in each age group. Therefore each student worked at least once, many in multiple, Art projects concerning different aspects of the topic: There was a competition to design a logo, fonts were created by using copies from old astronomy books, models showed new architectural solutions for a new observatory on the rooftop of our school, science fiction novels were illustrated, statues for European celebrities were build or their fashion style and behavior was copied, performed and photographed in the style of the artist Cindy Sherman. Not to forget the huge influence of stars and planets in the Fine Arts - e.g. in the surrealism, romanticism, in medical art - were topic of sculptures, paintings and drawings of the students and their lessons in Art theory.
The products of this prolific artistic reflections of the diverse meaning of the title „Stars in Europe“ were shown to the entire school community in the annual Art show at our school. It is a festive event with speeches and performances. This year we took the chance to celebrate the event together with our Erasmus partners. They were integrated in the process of curating and preparing the event and contributed with dances and live performances to the program. This was the evening that all of the school community - students, teachers and parents - were introduced to the Erasmus activities not only in the Art department but in general and all the guests were part of the celebration and the bonding experience Erasmus can be.
Until the next annual Art show in our school - in summer 2019 - there will be all the corridors and showcases filled with Art inspired by „Stars in Europe“. Therefore Erasmus will continue to shape the atmosphere in our building. It left traces in the mind of those who went through an artistic process with the topic „Stars in Europe“ - but also in the school building to see and to reflect upon for another year to follow.
